All breeds vary in size but as a guide
Small - small chihuahuas ,tiny yorkie’s and young puppies up until 3-4 months depending on breed 1.5kg - 3kg approx
Medium- small slim shih tzu’s ,Yorkie poo’s,Maltese , puppy terriers , mini dachshunds etc
4kg approx
Large - westies, shih tzus , small cavapoo’s , small cockerpoo’s ,small french bulldogs
5kg- 8kg
XL - cocker spaniels , Cockapoo’s, cavapoo’s , Bichons
8kg- 12kg approx
It really depends on how big your dog is for the breed for example one shih tzu could be a medium and the other a large .
If your dog is broad across the chest/shoulders and fuller round the waist and you would prefer a more relaxed fit then I would suggest sizing up as they are snug across this area
Also if your dog is in between sizes on the chart then size up
